Welp, it’s July. I guess that means #Pride is over…Sike! Y’all know we celebrate Pride every day. Just like we celebrate being Black every day! . I had a great chat with my sister @dominiquet.a.r.jackson yesterday on IG Live. (Shout out to @wmag). We talked about @poseonfx, quarantining, and missing each other. And we also talked about everything that’s going on today. #BlackLivesMatter #BlackTransLivesMatter! . We talked about #BayardRustin. He was an adviser to #MartinLutherKingJr and the organizer behind the 1963 #MarchonWashington but because he was gay, he and his role in the movement was supressed and all but erased. Despite that cost, he said: . “It was an absolute necessity for me to declare homosexuality, because if I didn’t I was a part of the prejudice. I was aiding and abetting the prejudice that was a part of the effort to destroy me.” . WE – yes, YOU too – I see you #allies – also cannot aid and abet things that do not serve us, things that are trying to destroy us. We’ve got to fight for one another – gather, organize, protest, and above all else, VOTE! . In his book, Down The Line, Mr. Rustin wrote about the Montgomery protest committee’s prayer meetings. The meetings centered around five prayers: . A prayer for the success of the meeting. A prayer for strength of spirit to carry on nonviolently. A prayer for strength of body to walk for freedom. A prayer for those who oppose us. A prayer that all men may become brothers to live in justice and equality. . I’m not sure if you’re the praying type, but no matter who you are – Black, white, or otherwise – I think these are things that ALL of us can rally around. Amen? . . .
